Mic Crenshaw and Kool Chief Rocker are LOAD B (Last Of A Dying Breed), presenting the music video for "Sunlight", the new single from their forthcoming album Brink Of Distinction. The video was shot between Arusha, Tanzania and Portland, where both emcees currently reside. The track is produced by Cincinnati beatsmith Theory Hazit - who also produced their previous single "Paradox" (Apple) - and will sit on BOD alongside production from DJ Klavicle, DJ Wicked, Prince Elwood Strickland and Trox. Award-winning poet and spoken word artist Kool Chief Rocker was one of three people stabbed in a 2017 hate crime on Portland public transit in which two men died when Rocker came to the defense of two women of color, one of whom was wearing a hijab. Micah was stabbed in the neck but survived. Chicago-born poet and emcee Mic moved to Portland after founding Anti-Racist Action, making him a lead figure in street wars between neo-Nazi skinheads and anti-racist youth in the Midwest in the 80’s and 90’s. Leading bands like Hungry Mob and Suckapunch before establishing his solo career, Crenshaw was 2001's Portland Poetry Slam Grand Slam Champion, a National Poetry Slam finalist, and was voted Portland’s Best Hip Hop Artist by Willamette Week in 2016. Mic co-founded GlobalFam, a non-profit project to create and maintain a computer center for disadvantaged youth in Burundi. Over 400 people have received free training. Mic also partnered with Education WithOut Borders (EWOB), which supports education, music and art initiatives in Portland and beyond and serves as an umbrella for the local Books For Prisoners chapter and GlobalFam itself. Mic's last solo release was Earthbound (miccrenshaw.com). Brink Of Distinction is set for a summer release.

Harlem rap artist Tommy Danger presents the Best Watch Films-directed music video for "What They Say", the new 20 Dollar Beats-produced single from Motivation and Confidence Vol.1: The 7 Steps, his new mixtape which was released in tandem with an e-book and podcast under the same name. Tommy released ten volumes of his mixtape The Now & Laterman on Spotify, inspired by his practice of handing out Now and Laters at Hip Hop events in exchange for email addresses. Past visuals include "Everyday We Droppin" (Youtube) featuring Jimmy Timeless and produced by CrummieBeats, and "Good Times" featuring Charlie Brown from Leaders Of The New School (Youtube). "I wrote the song to in response to what people say about me behind my back," Tommy says. "On the flip side, it's also to address people who talk crazy on social media about others."

Richmond, CA rapper Mani Draper presents the SLVTR Films-directed music video for "Blood In The Water" featuring and produced by Kevin Allen, formerly known as Erk Tha Jerk. "Blood In The Water" appears on Mercy, Mani's new album featuring Locksmith, GQ and Emily McLean as well as production from DJ Flow, Sndtrak and Zenan of ODS. The video's animation was handled by Bay Area art collective The Illuminaries. Mani has several albums under his belt including The Unauthorized Biography of Ella MaeLast Marauder and RAWK(Mani on Spotify) and has collaborated with Jake One and Terrace Martin. Mani has composed original music for Tommy Hilfiger, Adidas and Calvin Klein, and was the narrative voice on IAMSU's Sincerely Yours album. Mani co-founded the Brave Area collective and partnered with Bay Area boutique label At The Ave Records in 2017. Mani says his new single was "born out of a conversation centered around legacy. All of my successful creative friends (Kevin Allen specifically) are family men and women. When I was able to slow down and process that, it was inspiring to sort of recognize that the stakes are always higher for them. So they dig a little deeper and push a little further than most and ultimately spawn something impactful every time out.” Mercy is out now on At The Ave.
