NEW JERSEY hip-hop Music Artist CINOEVIL and his crew with O.C.D are elevating levels. We are here to showcase their current work and find out more about cino and his come-up.

How did it all begin?

“When I was about 10 years old. My best friend’s older brother had low budget recording equipment in his room. He would make songs while we played video games. He was a singer.. still is. One day, he made a track and said he needed to find a rapper to get on the verse. So I went home and wrote the most unbelievably ignorant bars about my Lamborghini and being a trillionaire at the age of 10. Lmfao but I fell in love with the whole process of recording. It went on like that for two more years until I started taking it seriously.. Around the age of 13, a good friend of mine had committed suicide. I was the last person she tried to contact. I had a very hard time coping with it but I had found freedom in writing and getting my feelings out through poetry and hiphop. I made music from the heart for the first time and put it out on Facebook, YouTube and Soundcloud. I would get messages from people telling me how my songs and words touched them and helped them through their hard times. That’s when I truly fell in love with creating music. The feeling I got from hearing that my words helped people was greater than anything I’ve ever felt before. They say pain shared is pain lessened and that theory was 1000% true in my case

How would you describe your music now?

“I feel I’ve stayed the same with the realness and truth in my music. I try to stay as honest as possible in the lyrics and speak on things that actually pertain to my life. I use music as my therapy works to its fullest potential is if you remain honest. What changed the most is the lyrics aren’t only about pain anymore. I touch on everything, both good and bad that I go through and see in my life. If i had to describe my music right now, I’d say it’s versatile. I bring a different vibe with each track… Different sub-genres of hip hop and different styles of rapping. I try to always keep the actual bars strong though whether I’m doing an ignorant autotuned track or if it’s straight old school boom bap rapping, I want the audience to be able to read the lyrics on paper and feel like they’re reading in depth poetry. Not just some braggadocious, fake luxury bars about things I don’t have.

How did you come up with the name “CinoEvil”?

“I had the name before I started rapping. My 4th grade teacher actually came up with it. My last name is Mancino. He always used to call me “Cino” for short. When he was taking attendance one day though, for whatever reason, he called me Cinoevil. And I just held onto it forever.”

Tell us more about O.C.D Music, how would you describe the brand? How did that come together?

O.C.D was formed when I was in high school. Probably around sophomore year. It originally was just me & 3 other artists. Wolfe, Vero & Nerson. It stands for “Obsessively Creative Deliquents”. The team started to build as our music got more love locally. We tried to put together a group of artists with all different styles and talents as nobody would get overshadowed. We consist of rappers, singers, producers, photographers, graphic designers & even a comedian as well. We all grew up in the Tristate area. Jersey, NYC & Philly mostly. Vero went off to pursue his craft solo. The team currently is me (Cinoevil), Wolfe, Ragz, Summonte, Nerson, Steamboat Crilly, Mustang Marinara, Hoodbabii, Imani DC, Morskamo, Jaded Shade & Dole. I would describe us as a family.”

Rich From The Pole (Zach Richardson)- Chicago made born and raised in Rogers Park on the North side of Chicago (from the pole) was raised in a one parent home living into a grateful existence. You can hear in the music an attitude of motivation, pain and progression. His biggest influence growing up was his mother as she looked out for him. He started hooping early and started playing basketball at 4 years old. After a few wrist injuries he grew more into hiphop and music, which he considers, a “a blessing from God

Apollo Mighty is an artist currently residing in Chicago, Illinois. He has been in the creative zone for a while, but right now he is stronger than ever. We recently connected with his team, other creatives around Chicago, and were given this opportunity to interview/showcase his work in the next Artist Snapshot. We learned more about himself as an artist during the creative process and who he is himself. We also had a chance to look at some of his previous work and there is Major Talent! #rareflavr

He recently has released a very special track titled, “Solid Gold” which you can find in the article. @apollo_Mighty

instagram.com/apollo_mighty

@Apollo_Mighty

“I feel powerful, capable, connected, vulnerable, worthy… Mighty!”

To start off- How would you describe the light of your talent? When Do you find yourself you are creating at your best of the best?

“The light of my talent comes from my vulnerability. I find that I create better when I ignore the fears and focus on what I love to do.”

Awesome- When You are dialed-in what do you primarily focus on the most? Your Pitch? Energy on the Track? Tone? Or just nailing the lyrics?

Also, how do you typically come up with lyrics?

“It depends. Sometimes I’m trying to capture the essence of the song by moving around and willing the emotion to guide the rhythm. Other times I hear the riff or the run or melody and build from there. I honestly take what ever raw material God gives me and work with it until I’m satisfied (or as close to satisfied as I can get). It can definitely be a lot of trial and error.”

What song have you made do you feel captures the best version of yourself the most?

“These are some of the best questions that anyone has ever asked me lol. I’m thinking in between my responses . Theres’s a few so let me really think. I’ll narrow it to four: Dark Side of the Moon/ Unsaid/Where' I’ve been. There was a time- kinda where I’m at Last song: Where I’m going and working my way to be. My songs are extensions of me and they represent my range and my truth but these came out evenly with very little effort on my part. These songs feel like gifts to me and when I get to perform them it doesn’t feel like I’m singing but more so like I’m simply breathing. These songs feel like magic to me.”

Thank you. When you perform live do you focus more on catering to the audience typically, or do you internally focus on performing at the highest level?

How would you yourself describe your live show?

Quite honestly I love to perform live. Recording is great and it serves its purpose as fas as distribution and allowing my artistic expression to be showcased but for me at least I come to understand that recordings can be quickly consumed and forgotten. My live shows however can’t be ignored and can’t be forgotten. What I bring to my live sets is something that cannot be denied or replicated. I am my real self when I get up there.”

Nice- by the way the Name Apollo Mighty is phenomenal. How did you get lucky enough to be named that?

How did your name come to fruition?

“Apollo was a nickname I gave myself when I was a kid and I insisted everyone call me that. It eventually stuck. Haha. I added mighty when I was living in Chattanooga and I was describing what I feel when I sing. I feel powerful, capable, connected, vulnerable, worthyMighty!”

Awesome where do you currently reside? Where else have you lived throughout your lifetime. Has any of the places impacted yourself artistically? If so how so? And/or What does your ideal recording set up look like? Anything you need to have on your “recording rider” or rider in general? What is something that you need to get through a session?

“I’m currently in Chicago. I’ve only ever lived in Tennessee. Memphis for most of my life and Chattanooga for three years. I’m definitely influenced by the vibrancy of Chicago. Artist have definite sense of who they are and what they need to say and they don’t hesitate. Art and the community around it are respected here. I like that. I attribute my soulfulness to Memphis of course but it’s more than that. Memphis was the first place I was given the opportunity to be heard and gain confidence. That has influenced my music more than anything. It gave me the courage to come to a new city and step into booths and onto stages. The recording situation I’m in now is my ideal setup. It’s a studio ran by a group of truly dope creatives. They’re all friends and they run this amazing studio here in Chicago. Honestly the space itself embraced me the first time I went there. They have everything I need and they’re professional which I absolutely have to have. The space is kinda hippie (ish) with tapestries on the walls and conversations about tripping happening all around but when it’s time to work they go in. The film each of your sessions so you can have that for promo and they’re just great guys. I was searching for a space for so long and I’m glad I was brought there. Huge shout to the guys over at Honey Jam Records. “

Amazing how do you feel about your music where it is at now? See you just released Solid Gold. Is that a single or a project for future release or just a single? How did you come up with Solid Gold?

“My plan right now is to release an entire EP at top of next year. I’m really inspired right now and I’m also ready to work. I’m probably more focused than ever right now.”

That’s awesome. Do you plan on performing any of your music live in the near future? Also how long have you been making music for? Do you have music in your family history?

What are some of your main influences in and outside of music?

“Yeah I’m adding a bunch of house shows and open mics to my schedule. My goal is to really build up a strong following in Chicago Right Now and I think it’s cool to do that with a GrassRoots Vibe. My faith influences my music as well as my day to day life and struggles. I’ve been making music since I was 7 and there are a few singers in my family as well.”

That’s great what do you typically look for as characteristics in other people either when building a team or collaboration with others?

“Absolutely. I go off vibes and natural chemistry. When I’m building with people I look for people who can do things that I can’t and who I can respect When collaborate it’s the same things but there has to be a fluidity in the energy that we share and vibe during conception.”

Great what is something we should know about you? Anything else you want to have that we have not covered? What ar eyou looking to accomplish or do in the near future with outgoing projects? What can we expect next?

“There are actually a couple of things I’d like to say to the future me when I read back on this. I know this isn’t exactly what you asked but hey. Lol. My response is as follows:

Right now and over the last few months you’ve hidden from. I know I scare you just like you know I’m your only real power. I’m your truth I am your freedom. Right now at this moment I can see you. I’ve seen you lie in bed until it’s time to go see people and you begin to put the mask on. I know that even though you make bomb music, have an amazing family and have finally fallen in love you still feel inadequate.

I can only say one thing:

It’s not about you. It’s never gonna be about you (like ever) And that it changes when you do. Love you homie”

The following text and content is compiled from responses of a @RareFlavr X @denzo2x interview:

Recently we had the opportunity to connect with @denzo2x NorthSide (NorthPole) of Chicago Native to discuss up and coming opportunities within the music industry and business as a music entrepreneur. He mentioned to us he has been in the music game for about two years now and is looking to take a serious step further as he releases his next projects. He has always been a fan of music growing up and the power it has to influence other people. To Denzo, it is all about gaining enough influence to create a positive impact. It helps his mentality to remain sharp, because you have to think on a higher scale to create. For him it is all about where you can take a listener mentally. He loves music where the song describes real life events that are taking place. He also explained how enjoys where music is currently, because different sounds are accepted more than ever.

A piece of the creative process-

In the beginning he would receive beats and break them down individually with his voice. Afterwards, he writes about half of the song and finishes the other half in the studio.

“It’s crazy because sometimes I write in parts whether that be writing uh hook of a song, then the bridge following a verse etc. sometimes my mind be all over the place so I just getta feeling for each part of the beat and capitalize off of it. “ -D.LaFlair

“I try to back myself into a corner before sessions to see what I can really come up with because my camp likes to keep it professional as far as time management so I know I have to come into studios prepared to a high degree.” - OG DENZO

I feel like it’s the perfect follow up song behind the couple visuals and releases I do have out and I plan on taking all of my supporters through the entire process of creating it up to the video. It was originally produced by Mic Will @_ogmicwill on IG and engineered by Banks @banksthegenius on IG. I’m extremely appreciative of these release date.” - OGDENZO

Studio Session @denzo2x

He started performing by himself several months ago. His first performance was in Atlanta at Club Knockout Bar & Lounge and since then he began picking up serious speed. He said he loves doing shows because gets to meet people face to face and have them see the real him. His last three shows have went well and will be releasing a show recap video pertaining each song he promotes heavily. He has been on the radio once and had three songs played live through “NorthSide Plugged” . He has a couple radio station interviews coming up and will be in rotation. The EP is currently untitled but will have six tracks that all compliment each other and will be uploaded closer to winter/ December time, but is excited to put a stamp on the game and represent the city.

“My favorite team is The Bulls - not big on sports teams right now cause i feel the organizations aren’t making all of the right decisions but when Derrick Rose was at large I was the most excited about Chicago. Spent most of my youth playing basketball Fell in love with it an early age and never looked back I put a lot of work in tot the game and In return it shaped my character. “- OG DENZO

From Poland to the U.S.A. @_Larcin_ is a hip-hop artist that has a unique personality and story. Larcin was originally born in Poland and came to the USA when he was 8 years old and moved three times before finally settling in in Park Ridge IL with his family. He has been associated with music his entire life. He began playing piano at 10 years old and sang in his Church Choir until he was 16 years old. During his teenage years he also picked up guitar.

@_Larcin_ on Instagram

@_Larcin_ on Instagram

He started writing rhymes when he was 16-17 years old and At 17, he was arrested for possession of weed and was sent to Cook County.   The administration at Cook forgot to input his bail, So he had to stay in jail for 4 days. Although he has had some challenges along the way, there is still music to be made and we took some time to learn about his motivation and upcoming projects.

In the beginning, Larcin wrote raps on his phone until one of his friends @SAPA INCA took him to the studio.  About 6 months ago he started to think of rap names. That is where LARCIN was created. Before that, his first rap name was herb-- all of his close friends called him HERB from ages 12 and at 19 changed it to MARCIN The dream and at 22 LARCIN.

More Recently, the projects he's working on is an ep called, "Life Aint What it Seems"EP that is coming out in mid February with Features from brewskisapa inc and blunt gutta.

Larcin was raised by polish parents who are very against drugs and very religoius but very musical.  His influence comes from first ever rap D12 my band and 50 cent in the club then fell in love with hiphop and rap. He has been expanding his musical ear ever since but lover of 90s and 2000s rap the most.

He mentioned he listens to alot of Jim Rohn who is a motivational speaker and who has a lot of inspiration in his life. and gets a lot of inspiration looking for and listening to people and see how their lives everyone has traveled a different journey and it's cool to see where they came from.

"i try to be original but i love different kinds of music not just rap i listen to a little bit of everything except country" -larcin

What do you look for in music what do you appreciate the most that most people take for granted?

"I look to make something that can catch people's ear something that can get stuck in people's heads so they come back and listen to it again and have that tune in their head all day long! I try to appreciate the little things and be happy with what i have now because i know that so many people in the world have it so much worse than me. My favorite quote,"its better to be prepared for an opportunity and not have one, then to have an opportunity and not be prepared"- Whitney Young

"Behind Larcin is just a kid that's trying to leave a mark in the world and help as many people as I can to get where they want to get in life."- Larcin

What to expect next coming weeks

The "Life ain't what it seems ep" with features from brewski and sapa inca and blunt gutta and a couple of singles dropped after the ep.

What was the music scene like for you growing up in Texas? What got you influenced into music? Any Specific band, movie, etc?

"The Music Scene for us is very diverse. We have a strong Rock, Soul, and Hip-Hop influence so I grew up on things like UGK and ZZ Top which is a crazy combo lol. My dad played guitar, harmonica, and sang so I always had music all around me. My favorite artist is Jay-Z and favorite producer is Timbaland so watching those two made my inspiration go through the roof. All my friends were getting into rapping or different things so I just kinda naturally slid into making beats. " - Trakksounds

We noticed you've worked with some big named rappers and singers. What was that transition looking like starting from making beats in High School to featuring artists like 2 Chainz and Scarface?

"Man it kinda just started happening because i was so persistent on the internet. I was hitting people every day like let me send beats, let me send beats, let me send beats lol. Eventually the 2 Chainz placement happened and I just kept at it. Every little placement opened the doors for my big placements and I worked with a lot of up and comers before my first big track so I was just staying patient because I could feel it coming"

- Trakksounds

That's sick persistence was the key. Is your studio set up in Houston? Do you do a home studio or somewhere you rent out or someone you know own a studio? Or mostly remote traveling w/ your studio?

"I have a home studio and a like office studio called IMIX Studios that I bring clients to and did a lot of my biggest tracks there in Houston." - Trakksounds

Nice what is your favorite Kit to use? Drums trumpets, organs, 808's etc and why? Also, what types of equipment is essential for a successful session?"

"My favorite kits are probably my own that I make from random sounds lol. I have all types of random equipment in sessions from keyboards, guitars, talkboxes, percussion, etc. But gotta have a keyboard only mainly and I can make it happen. I can even use my laptop keyboard and make some tracks."

- Trakksounds

On Trakksound's YouTube Channel, he not only showcases tracks he has made but also a glimpse into the actual creative process. If you are interested in learning about that creative process check out his YouTube Channel Here. As well as a quick "The Other Side Documentary"

What would you say is some important advice for aspiring producers and young artists? What has been a key to your success

"I would be ready to do a lot of unpaid or way below what  you think is your value because at this point you have to build your name as a producer as much as an artist and brand yourself. " - Trakksounds

One thing we seek at rareflavr is  talent with a well driven purpose. Purpose that is driven by creativity, realness, persistency, artistry, and dedication. Luckily, we have the opportunity today to feature an original rap group that fits these characteristics. They have been in the rap/hiphop game since the late 90's and are grateful to deliver an Artist Snapshot to give you taste of their music and journey. From Los  Angeles, CA  if you have not already heard, we introduce to you rap duo Substance Abuse.

emcee Subz (left) & Eso Tre (right)

emcee Subz (left) & Eso Tre (right)

Substance Abuse is a rap duo consisting of emcees Subz and Eso Tre, who grew up together in Los Angeles, CA . They found their love for hiphop early in life releasing their first EP in 1998 titled, Brand New Crime and from there it all took off (substanceabusehiphop.com-- bio).

SA

They gain traction b/c of their unique styles and staying true to their purpose and sound. That sound is lyrical and purposeful conscious rap. Today in our state of hiphop that can be considered more of background music Hence the title their most recent EP, Background Music: The Redux

Originally, they released an EP titled, Background Music, but revisited the idea of the EP and wanted to give a new perspective of a few of the original tracks on the 1st album by dropping Background Music: The Redux -- (link to apple music)

Background Music” refers to the state of hip hop today, explains Eso “where the music seems deracinated of the personality and edge that it once had.”  It also refers to how our music is construed by the masses, people who generally seem to favor the popular over the obscure.  Real hip-hop has been forced to play the “background” to club and dance music that seems devoid of any message or staying power."

Over time, Substance Abuse has collaborated with some reputable names in the game including: SaafirKool KeithMotion ManKutmasta Kurt,RascoThes-One, and MF Doom.  They have a track titled “Rear View” which features legendary hip-hop artist KRS-One  and this track has been remixed as Rear View: The Chase Remix and has been featured on DJ Premier's radio shows titled, DJ Premier's Live from HeadQCourterz radio show and other platforms.

"Rear View" sheds light on what hiphop truly is and that we are, "never going back" (KRS-One "Rear View") but enjoying the time it was and how great that is.

Greatly, have they collaborated with KRS-One,  and they have also collaborated w/ another legend MF DOOM  in 2006 on an track called "Profitless Thoughts". which has received much attention on the release of their album released titled, Overproof which is perfect for bumping in the whip.  This track was featured on outlets including: YRBURBScratch Magazine, and 944

The game needs more people w/ a purpose and dedication. The music that is glorified does not necessarily always have the real glory that exists. The question we all need to ask is why? What makes us like music? If you are sick of the main stream media and music that is put out. Do yourself a favor and check out the most recent Project dropped by Substance Abuse: Background Music on Apple Music or substanceabusehiphop.com for some real hip hop!

//We also had opportunity to gain some hiphop knowledge From Eso Tre...///

We noticed you dropped your first EP in 1998 as a duo. What is a key to your consistency/persistence performing & recording in a rap group?

Eso Tre: I think we always had a music first attitude. We had no idea where we would go in the industry, we just knew we wanted to be dope. When we first started putting out music even having a 12" out was a huge accomplishment. But you have to aim higher than that, and once you put out something, you want to have more exposure. Subz and I wanted to blow up, but we were always humble and put our music and our friendship before the business aspect of it. I think that has been the key to our longevity.

What impacts you the most when it comes to music?

Eso Tre: Hearing a beat idea that's dope. Whenever I'm in a creative lull and I hear a hype sample that one of the homies found I suddenly feel revived and enthusiastic about hip hop again. It was like that back in the day working with producers NO and Medicine, and now with our homies Waes One and our high school buddies Da Stig and Philm, who have become an indispensable part of our creative process.

Who or what is your biggest mentor? How do they help you along the way  ?

Eso Tre: Kutmasta Kurt has always been a go to type of cat for advice and a big brother to us in the industry.  He taught us a lot of stuff, how to deal with distributors and PR people and people who ran the business part of the game.  He is calm and level headed about stuff, and I think that rubbed off on us a lot.

What are your three pieces of life advice you would give to anyone-- or in particular aspiring artists?

substance abuse

Eso Tre: The game is weird right now.  Twitter beefs, dumb stuff trending, people jocking anyone with a name.  Who's following who on Instagram.  My advice to anyone trying to make it is try not to get distracted or discouraged by all this social media and internet stuff.  You definitely have to use it to get your music out there, but don't think if people are more of an internet sensation than you that they're better.  Second, speaking of the internet, don't think just having a Soundcloud account makes you dope.  You actually have to practice to be a dope rapper, it's not just the ability to have people hear your music.  Finally, don't be daunted by rejection.  Half these reputable sites don't know sh*t from Shinola when it comes to dope music, and their snootiness hides their insecurity and inability to really be able to tell what's good.

What Can listeners expect when checking out your Album Background Music?

Eso Tre: Background Music: The Redux is just a little holdover EP we put out until we drop our next effort.  We remixed some of our favorite joints off the OG version of Background Music we put out a few years back.  The Redux was a companion piece to the original album, kind of a "Part 2" if you will.  We love jazz, and on the EP we really tried to bring out that influence.

What do you have planned as a group for the future?

Eso Tre: A new album, maybe a documentary about us on some "Searching for Sugarman" vibe.

Anything else we should know that haven't gone over / not on website?

Eso Tre: We got some new joints and a new album in the works, with songs and lyrics that address the perilous times we're in.  There has never been a stronger need for conscious hip hop than now, and there seems to be a dearth of it.  People are angry, and they rightly don't believe that politicians represent their interests, or at the very least, empathize with them.  That's why we need emcees with a strong message.

"Are you going to be the Change - Or wait for change to rearrange you?" ('Change' Youtube). One of the qualities of #rareflavr is unique, courageous and bold talent. If you listen to the lyrics on the Song "Change" by Aviva and the Flying Penguins you can feel depth of the motivation. When you see creatives finding new perspective it catches your eye . We dug into some of their videos and found it unique and interesting how they have a motivational side to them. Including songwriting techniques and sessions on their youtube Channel. Sometimes your voice and love can be stronger than anything you have. Aviva and the Flying Penguins have been making music as a band and the lead singer Aviva has been making music since she was 8 years old. They have been on the road many times and are an indie band that definitely defines uniqueness and creative abilities. Which you can see in their music videos including 'Cannibus Car' .

Turns out Aviva was working on a farm in exchange to live there. The farmer she lived with grew mostly blueberries and tomatoes but wanted to grow hemp. He taught her that it used to be required for farmers to grow hemp until it became illegal to grow it at all. As of 2014, It has become legal to grow hemp in accordance with the farm bill for research with the arbitrary definition of it's THC level being less than .3%.  Around 50  farmers in Tennessee registered in 2016.   As she looked more into it she found how Henry Ford built a car to run on hemp right before it became illegal. As she was thinking deeper about this a melody came to her to develop a song.

Many people often confuse hemp with Marijuana.."Hemp refers to strains of Cannabis sativa that have been bred specifically for fiber used for clothing and construction, oils and topical ointments, nutritional benefits and a wide and growing variety of other purposes that don’t involve intoxication." Bacca, A. (2014, June 5).What's the difference between hemp and marijuana? Retrieved from http://www.alternet.org/drugs/whats-difference-between-hemp-and-marijuana

"I get a feeling and then a melody accompanies it and it all comes together like a group dance between my words, melody phrasing, heart, and soul and this other invisible force- angels perhaps? Invisible buddies whispering hope in my ear?"- aviva

The process of making music can be different for some but there is a common theme of letting the message find you . Regardless of perception creativity is something we can all take part in. Finding rhythm and greatness is something we at #rareflavr cherish. Unique experiences and challenges often make great opportunities to write music.

As Aviva and The Flying Penguins are an indie group they have shared some interesting experiences on the road. When asked about some of those times Aviva shared with us one of the most hilarious stories she could think of even though there were tons.

She shared with us,

"Ok we were driving in the van and were running really low on gas.  We had just left a gig in Raleigh headed north, and the pump in town was rigged.  It didn't work- card kept declining- and My drummer Andre felt like for some reason the place - or someone who worked there - would scam us… so we hit the road thinking the next exit would have gas… it didn't…. we actually ended up driving over 20 miles until we saw a little gas sign on the exit for Lizard Lick.  We got off the exit and there were no lights anywhere.  We drove in the direction of the gas arrow and saw nothing.   We really thought we were gonna run out of gas in the middle of nowhere… we all started praying.. what seemed like 4 miles later we saw a giant Lizard statue in the distance. "That's it!"  It was a close call!  We came upon it and I jump out of the car with elation!!!! My drummer noticed however the place was closed.  "Maybe it will still take a credit card" I said. (I get sooo giddy on tour I am often over-positive). And yes sure enough the credit card worked.  That Lizard statue was just too much - and still an endearing treat on the not much sleep, not much $, not much luxury INDIE TOUR hehehehehhe. "-Aviva

Performing Live has to be a positive experience because it shows your true talents and confidence to express them boldly. Going on the Road as well is a true test of overcoming obstacles.

You can see the depth, soul, talent and unique philosophy of the music above in a live open mic performance where Aviva plays the piano and sings.

We asked about what excites her the most performing the music or making the music? Do you get nervous before performing? what advice would you give beginners who get nervous performing? Also noticed your Songwriting Sundays/Motivational Music. Do you teach music?

Aviva: "yes, I do teach music.  I love motivating others to express themselves and be creative as a tool for not only expressing, but healing… not only performing, but taking a time out and exploring ways their subconscious is exploring the space right now that they wouldn't have noticed unless they unplugged and gave permission for things to just be.  We have innate gifts and all they need are our attention.  It does take work and practice, however, to keep things that would distract us out of our way.  I definitely get nervous before I perform.  It helps when I do qi gong, especially with the whole band and even the audience.  It centers me and reminds me that I am "on purpose".  Making music excites me so much.  I love the stage, the amps, the microphones, the dancing, the show, the background dancers, how we practice so much to get to a certain point and then just let go and have fun.  I love to see my band come alive on stage… it's harder to get that in rehearsals.  I loooooove the studio.  I get sooo excited laying down tracks and adding different parts.  It feels so magical.  It's a whole different artistic palette to pull from.  I love the supportive energy of working with people I love and trust.  It excites me so much to write new songs.  Once someone asked me what my favorite song was.. I answered usually the one I just wrote.  It seems to give me a pattern of program I need to vibrate to and so the idea of writing a song a week for my sunday songwriting show really excited me as each week I would have a new favorite song to soothe and heal me as I express it and listen back… it's often a lullaby to me that week as it seems to possess the power to bring my subconscious out for a joyful journey.  Such a journey seems to bring more sense, love, peace and joy to my human experience.  I like sharing this with others because I feel like it might inspire them and get them to open up in new ways.  I had to let go of my ego need for songs to sound rehearsed and arranged in order to share on this kind of platform.  The spontaneity, current relevance, rawness, and authenticity is what I craved to give people. "- Aviva

The meaning behind the name Purple Dialect is a play on "purple prose" which is when authors uses elaborative words without necessarily having to.- He felt that that was the case when rapping, freestyling and coming up with lyrics/tracks/recording. Purple Dialect started making raps early around age 13 and started by playing base guitar, and making punk rock music with his friends.  Some of the main influences growing up were De La Soul & The Beastie Boys. Also, A Tribe Called Quest and  were the main influences to motivate in making hip-hop music. On his Instagram you can see that he does freestyles and uses machines and microphones to do live recordings. He mentioned he is most comfortable using the Roland SP404sx and MASCHINE.

As far as collaborations PD is open to collaborations online with underground artists and others which share his vision.  Ultimately, he mentioned he would love to collaborate with MF DOOM if possible. We asked, "Is there anything in particular that creates inspiration for your music?" Purpled Dialect Replied, " I just love hip-hop. It's tied up with comic books and film in my mind. It's like a jumbled mess but it turns into this aesthetic that feels dope to me at least. It's Therapy. Can't feel too bad if you just made a beat that sounds dope."
